Provider insight
Do I need to register as an NDIS provider?
Reviewed 9 August 2026
A decision framework for mandatory registration, funding management and commercial scope.
Start with the supports and funding pathway
Registration is mandatory for particular supports and circumstances, including supports delivered to NDIA-managed participants. Other providers may be able to operate unregistered for self-managed or plan-managed participants. The correct decision depends on what you will deliver and to whom.
Test commercial fit as well as obligation
Registration creates access to some markets but also brings audit, evidence, workforce and ongoing compliance responsibilities. Scope only what the organisation can credibly operate.
